LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

Hi children, here is another version of Little Red Riding Hood. As you can see, I have changed the end of the story a little bit. I suggest you do the same and think of another possible end for the story. 

You have to rewrite the story.

Some possible ends could be:

-The Wolf is good and he and Little Red Riding Hood become friends. 

-The Wolf also eats Little Red Riding Hood.

-Little Red Riding Hood arrives at her Granny's house before the Wolf. 

-Little Red Riding Hood fights against the Wold. 

-Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf fall in love.

Using stories in the English class

Stories are a good way to work with children in the class for many reasons. 

The main reason is the strong motivational component that have, since children love stories. Through stories they are able to internalize the language structure in an unconscious way.

Stories are also perfect to learn new vocabulary. While listening stories, students are exposed to a huge amount of new vocabulary, what is better than memorizing endless lists of words. Besides, in stories students learn the vocabulary in context. 

Another advantage of stories is the opportunity that give us of introducing variety in the classroom. Many times children become tired of doing the same things again and again.  That's when stories are a good resource to keep working on the language and to increase students' interest in it.

Now that you have already learnt a lot about wild animals it is time for practice.
Here there is a series of funny activities for you to do.

 WEBQUEST 

 This Webquest will help students to discover WILDLIFE. They are used to see animals in zoos but ignore their real lives. With this webquest students not only will learn about different types of animals but also their habitats and living conditions, as well as, how to describe them.

It is adressed to students in 5th course of Primary Education. 
It will be carry out along 4 session plus one session for the presentations.

 INTRODUCTION

         You already know how we live in the zoo.

Would you like to know how we really live in our natural habitat?; What do we eat?; Where do we live? and a lot of things about us?
  
      Come with me and we will discover everything.

TASK

Your mission will be "to design a suitable habitat for the animal".

PROCESS

1) Arrange yourself in groups of three and choose one animal you have seen in the video. Each group chooses a different one.
2)  Do a research about the animal using the resources you will find below.
3) Each of you will look for specific information, thus:
STUDENT 1: will look for information about the natural environment where the animal lives and will draw it in a card.
STUDENT 2: will look for information about de diet of the animal and will draw the plants and animals needed for the animla survival. 
STUDENT 3: will search for information about physical appearance of the animal and the main characteristics of the animals group he belongs to (mammals, birds...), and will draw it within his natural environment. 
4) Finally all of you make a report about the animal in order to be able to explain to your partners as much as possible about it. You have to cover the following points:
     - Animal classification: mammals, reptiles, birds... and explain the main characteristics of the group he belong to.
     -Physical appearance of the animal.
     -Classify the animal according to his type of diet: herbivores, carnivores.... and explain the main  characteristics of the group he belongs to.
     -Place the animal within the food chain and talk about his diet.
     -Find out some curiosities about the animal and tell them to your partnerts.

I hope students have found this webquest enjoyable.

I found interesting the topic because it helps students to discover the true life of wild animals, as well as, to realize the necessity of taking care of both the environment and the animals.      

Besides, I am sure that they are going to learn a lot of things about animals, since the web pages that appear in the resources have a load of interesting information about animals, as well as, games for them to practise what they have learnt.
